Chair of Governors: Mrs Christine Thompson

I trained as a nurse at Kings College Hospital in 1970s and returned there to study for a Master’s degree in Public Health in 2006. I worked as a nurse and Health Visitor for many years before going into management, being responsible for the Health Visiting & School Nursing services for Milton Keynes and later Clinical Director for Children at the Strategic Health Authority.

When living in Munich for 3 years (husband’s job with the Royal Air Force) I taught English to adults and children. On return to Milton Keynes I was a school governor for a large Catholic Primary School for 5 years.

Since retirement in 2011 I have served on Gayhurst Parochial Church Council and was asked to be a Diocesan Governor for Stoke Goldington School.  I am passionate about the importance of Early Years Child Development and healthy children.  I regularly go into school to hear readers which enables me to get to know staff and children and contribute to the school.

When we became a joint governing body for North Crawley and Stoke Goldington Schools I was appointed Chair of the governing body.

I am married to Robin and we have 3 grown up children and 4 grandchildren. In my spare time I am   secretary for the Gayhurst Court Management Company, sing in the Milton Keynes City Church Choir and help to run the Children’s Choir as well as spending lots of fun days looking after our grandchildren!

Local Authority Governor: Mrs Christine Barry

I am a retired teacher who joined the Governing Body of North Crawley C. of E. First School in June 2013.  Having worked in various schools as a teacher in Hampshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes, working with children has been a large part of my life.  Education is so important and it is essential that children have the benefit of everything which a school is able to offer.  It is a challenge for me to be on the other side in the role of a governor.  I am particularly interested in the performance of schools and hope to ensure that all pupils have a fair chance to reach their full potential and enjoy their time at school.

Apart from working in schools for most of my life, I have done voluntary work since retiring.  For nearly 3 years I worked as a volunteer for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Milton Keynes.  I found this very rewarding as I enjoy meeting people and trying to help them.  Although I no longer do this, I still continue with the role of Treasurer and I am Advertising Manager for our Scan Parish magazine which is issued monthly.

As a governor, I hope to both challenge and give support to the staff at both schools in  North Crawley and Stoke Goldington.  It is important that all the children feel happy and enjoy their time at their respective schools and achieve their full potential.
